Skin Diseases In Rural Areas

                           Now a days peoples in the rural areas are suffering from so many types of skin diseases. In day to day practice we observe that we cannot explain the causes of  many of  these skin diseases in rural areas.

 Some common types of 'skin diseases in rural areas' are

Ø Skin Allergy

Ø Atopic Dermatitis / Eczema  

Ø Dry / Itchy Skin

Ø Cracking or Scaliness

Ø Bumps

Ø Carbuncle

Skin Allergy :
    It is a condition that where skin becomes irritated because of the immune system reacted to something that is usually harmless. This is called an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction can cause rash, itching, burning, redness, bumps, hives, and swelling.

Atopic Dermatitis / Eczema :

        It is a condition that causes dry, itchy and inflamed skin. It's common in young children but it can occur at any age. Environmental factors or allergens  such as cold and dry weather, dampness, and more specific things such as house dust mites, pet fur, pollen and molds etc. 

    Food allergies such as allergies to cows' milk, eggs, peanuts, soya or wheat. certain materials worn next to the skin such as wool and synthetic fabrics can cause atopic dermatitis.            

Dry / Itchy Skin :  

       Living in cold, windy conditions or low humidity climates. Too much bathing or scrubbing. Taking long, hot showers or baths or scrubbing  to your skin too much can dry your skin. Taking Bath more than once a day can remove the natural oils from your skin too. These are the common causes for dry / itchy skin. This type of "Skin Diseases In Rural Areas" are more common.

         Dry or  itchy skin is often a sign of a vitamin D deficiency. As vitamin D is created through skin exposure to the sun and cholesterol in the skin, in the winter months, when sunlight exposure is less, people often experience dry, itchy skin attributing it to the cold weather.

Cracking or Scaliness : 

            Skin fissures are cracks in the skin that form due to intense dryness and thickened skin. Fissures can be shallow or deep, and they may bleed or be painful. In addition to being uncomfortable, fissures can be a precursor to skin ulcers. For this reason, treating skin fissures before they worsen is important. Skin fissures are splits in the skin, usually to the point of  bleeding. 

   They can occur interdigitally , especially between the fourth and fifth toes, and are caused by hyperhydrosis or prolonged sweating in endurance events. Fissures are also seen with reduced moisture content of the skin (anhydrosis) around the heels.

Bumps :   

      Raised skin bumps can occur for many different reasons, including clogged pores, allergic reactions, burns, injury, sun exposure, viruses, friction, and infections. As any raised lesion or new growth on the skin that is less than 1 centimeter in diameter. 

       For example, a small pimple or wart would be a papule. A pustule is a type of papule that contains fluid or pus and typically has discolored or inflamed skin

Carbuncle :    

        A carbuncle is an infection of  the hair follicle(s) that extends into the surrounding skin and deep underlying subcutaneous tissue. They typically present as an erythematous, tender, inflamed, fluctuant nodule with multiple draining sinus tracts or pustules on the surface. 

       Most carbuncles are caused by the bacteria. A carbuncle is a cluster of several skin boils.
